Children’s Impact Center Mister & Miss Sweetheart Pageant Coming Soon

SHEPHERD, January 19, 2008 - The 2nd annual Community and Children’s Impact Center Mister & Miss Sweetheart pageant will be held in Shepherd on Saturday February 16th, 2008 beginning at 10:00am in the Community Center. This is just one of the many events that will occur this year in order to insure the vision of founder Brenda Myers comes to light. Brenda was struck by a Drunk Driver back in April of 2004. The horrific incident gave her awareness for the need of a Community Center where kids could congregate in a safe atmosphere while encouraging positive attitudes and confidence through teaching programs and community services. Brenda hopes to create what she calls, “a wonderland of resources” where kids can learn basic job skills and strong work ethics to become productive members of their own community. Volunteers would conduct practice interviews, help with resumes and network all useable resources available in and around the Impact Center’s counties.

The events of 2007 brought hundreds of kids to safe environments and allowed them to experience new and exciting dreams of their own. The Make Me a Star event gave kids the chance to explore and develop any musical interests by having local bands, musicians, singers and area volunteers give their time to demonstrate and teach individual skills. The Monster Mash Bash is a pre party with pumpkin carving, crafts, games and costume contests held in late September to promote the highly popular Maze of Madness. The haunted maze which was open the entire month of October attracted over #700 individuals and took 50-60 volunteers to design, create and set up. The Gift of Giving event held in December joined area kids together to understand the concept of better to give than receive. Crafts were made and taken to the Shepherd Seniors’ Center much to the enjoyment of the homes’ 45 tenants.

The ultimate success of this vision relies heavily on donations, sponsors and the yearly events to raise money for the ultimate goal of a permanent location. The building for the Impact Center has been donated by Cleave and Martha Die but the Center is currently seeking donated land to create a permanent home for the Center in or around the Tarkington or Shepherd area. If you or your business would like more information on helping this dream become a reality or upcoming events please contact Brenda Myers at(281) 432-1007 or (936) 499-2632 Email: BMyersimpact@att.net
