Grass Fire Sets 2 Abandoned Houses AblazeLIVINGSTON, January 10, 2008 – According to witnesses, at approximately 5:30 p.m. on January 10, 2008, a grass fire that started on Galloway Lane just off Highway 146 South about 6 miles out of town, caught two abandoned houses on fire.
The grass fire spread quickly and was able to ignite both houses. Witnesses called the Livingston Volunteer Fire Department who responded quickly and arrived with three fire engines and a host of volunteer fire fighters, trucks and cars.
The volunteer firemen were able to put out the fires before they were able to consume the houses. Livingston Fire Marshall Mark Taylor was on the scene and appeared to have everything under control. It is not known how the grass fire started. According to witnesses, the abandoned houses are more than 50 years old and nobody has lived in them for many years. The abandoned houses are located in a largely desolate area of the county and are overgrown and surrounded by fields. The fires were completely out before 6:30pm. All thanks to the Mark Taylor and the volunteer firemen who were able to extinguish the fires before things could have gotten much worse.
