Democrats Select Order of Candidate Names for March Primary

LIVINGSTON, January 10, 2008 - The Polk County Democratic Party Chair, Sharon Teal, held a meeting Thursday evening at Polk County Democratic Headquarters in downtown Livingston, for the purpose of determining how the local candidates’ names will appear on the March Democratic Primary ballot.  

Since there were multiple candidates who filed for the same office, dominos were used to settle the matter at hand.   Each candidate was asked to pick one of two dominos (double ace and double two) that were shuffled, face down on a table.

What would be office holders are hoping for is to have their name listed first in the category of the ballot that lists the office that they’re running for.  Sharon Teal’s 6 year old grandson, Ryder Lee, drew for Bobby Watson who could not make it in from Houston in time for the event.  All other candidates were present, with family members, to participate in the drawing.  The results are as follows:

For Sheriff:

1)  Gary McClendon

2)  Bobby Watson

For Commissioner Precinct 3:

1)  Milton Purvis

2)  Calvin Jones

For Constable Precinct 4

1)  Dana “Bubba” Piper

2)  Marvin Taylor - Incumbent
