McWhorter

Funeral Services for Oren S. McWhorter, 76, of Corrigan, Texas will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, April 13, 2008 in the First Baptist Church in Corrigan, Texas with Bro. Phil Corbett, Bro Tim Fuller, and Bro. Ken Cauthen officiating. Interment will follow in the Carmona Cemetery in Corrigan, Texas. Visitation will be held Saturday, April 12, 2008 from 5-8 in the Corrigan Funeral Home Chapel.

Mr. McWhorter was born January 23, 1932 in San Benito, Texas and died Thursday, April 10, 2008 in Corrigan, Texas. He left school to join the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War. After his enlistment he then took his civil service exam and worked for the Harlingen and San Benito P.D. He also worked in the construction industry, was employed by the Polk County Road and Bridge, and owned and operated the D&M One Stop convenience store. On March 23, 1990 he was appointed Municipal Judge of Corrigan and served until his retirement on August 31, 2007. He was a past president of the Corrigan Merchant Association, a member of the Corrigan-Camden Booster Club, a member of the Corrigan VFW Post 6521 and a member of Barnum Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his parents: Albert B. and Francis Ann (OʼNeal) McWhorter; brothers: Harlow McWhorter and John McWhorter; sister: Connie Jones; and great grandson: Devontre Maleek Love.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Barbara Sue McWhorter; sons: William Joseph Banville of Wonderlake, Illinois, Michael Wayne Hearn of Longview, Texas and Oren S. McWhorter Jr. of Corrigan, Texas; daughters: Francis Ann Mackey of Corrigan, Texas, Vicki Jo Wagner of Cleveland, Texas, Sherry Ann Montgomery of Cleveland, Texas, Suzanne Thompson of Chester, Texas and Kelly Lynn Rice of Livingston, Texas; brother: Forrest Lane of Greenville, Texas; 25 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and numerous other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers: Chuck McWhorter, Larry Banville, Wade McWhorter, Kyle Rice, Marty Thompson, Wesley Wagner, and Edward Strickland.

Wright

Mary Katherine Wright 61 of Livingston died Sunday April 6, 2008 in Lufkin. Funeral services will be held Thursday April 10, 2008 at 10:00 AM in the Cochran Funeral Home - Livingston with Bro. Bob White officiating. Burial will follow in Peebles Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday April 9, 2008 from 6:00pm until 10:00pm at Cochran Funeral Home.

Mary is preceded in death by her father Mahlon Wright and mother Roberta Hammond Wright.

She is survived by her son Steven Crowsey of Grand Prairie, daughter and son in law Theresa Lynn and Rick Owens of Porter, daughter Tammy Michelle Long of Livingston, grandchildren Gary, Courtney, Seth, Roper, and Micah, sisters Brenda Long of Richmond, and Dawn Moreno of New Braunsfels, best friend and sister Billie Sue Hill, nephew Sherman Brinkley, and niece Wendy Brown. She is also survived by her extended Wal Mart family and her nieces and nephews.

Serving as pallbearers will be Rick Owens, Jewell Ellison, Dwayne Harrison, Gary Harling, Sherman Brinkley, honorary pallbearers will be Roper Ellison, and Seth Owens.

George "Tink" Hilton 68, died Thursday April 3, 2008 in Livingston. Funeral services will be held Saturday April 5, 2008 at 2:00PM in the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gerald Reeves and Rev. James Hilton. Visitation was held Friday from 5:00pm until 10:00pm in the Cochran Funeral Home chapel.

Andrews

Funeral Services for Donald Roy Andrews, 82, of Diboll, Texas will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 5, 2008 in the Corrigan Funeral Home Chapel in Corrigan, Texas with Bro. Mr. Andrews was born July 25, 1925 in Wells, Texas and died Thursday, April 3, 2008 in Lufkin, Texas. He was salutatorian in his Class of 1942 and attended the University of Houston. He joined the Army Air Corps and served as a navigator and flight officer during WWII. He was a Chevrolet parts manager for over 50 years and a member of the First Baptist Church in Diboll, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents: Clyde Eugene and Mattie (Goolsby) Andrews; brothers: Jack Andrews and Braley Andrews; and sisters: Johnnie Bates and Lois Andrews.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Bessie (Hooper) Andrews of Diboll, Texas; sons: Donald Reagan Andrews and John Alan Andrews both of Austin, Texas; daughters: Mary Jane Allen of Austin, Texas and Laura Lynn Koenig of Ovieda, Florida; grandsons: Austin Koenig and Travis Koenig; granddaughters: Sara Allen, Laura McRae, and Allison Michelle Andrews, and numerous other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Tatum was born March 13, 1937 in Possum Walk, Texas in Trinity County and died Thursday, March 27, 2008 in Lufkin, Texas. She was a homemaker for her family all her life and a member of the Union Springs Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her parents: Howard and Edith (Bass) Maxey; husband: Tommy C.Tatum Sr.; son: Tommy Tatum Jr.; sisters: Noreen Maxey and Barbara Watts; grandson: Joshua Tatum; and daughter-in-law: Janice Tatum.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law: John Paul and Terrie Tatum of Center, Texas, Robert and Michelle Tatum of Mesquite, Texas; daughter and son-in-law: Belinda and Roger Gay of Hemphill, Texas; brothers and sisters-in-law: Howard and Betty Maxey of Crosby, Texas, Johnny and Armatha Maxey of Diboll, Texas; sister and brother-in-law: Freddie Jo and Cleo Purvis of Corrigan, Texas; 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends.

Davis

Ginvir "Pete" Giles Davis, age 83, died Saturday, March 22, 2008, at the Livingston Memorial Health Center.

Services will be held at St. Stephen's Catholic Church in Point Blank, Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at 11:00 AM, with Father Kim officiating. Interment will be in the Houston National Cemetery with VA honors.

Mr. Davis was born in Bunker, MO, to Opal and Paul Lee Davis, July 13, 1924. He worked in the transportation industry, where he was a manager. He was also a veteran of World War II.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Opal and Paul Lee Davis; his sister Pauline Seiss and brother James Davis.

His survivors include his wife of 59 years, Anna (Wilhelm) Davis; one daughter, Katherine Zatopek and husband Eugene from Sealy, TX.; sister; Bette Miller and husband Richard of Belle, MO, sister-in-law; Ginny Foshage of St. Louis, MO. Two grandchildren; Lauren Zatopek of Sealy, TX and Bryan Zatopek, of Dallas TX. Numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

In lieu of flowers it was requested that Memorials be made to the Heart Association or the Lighthouse Hospice, Conroe, TX.

Hughes

Funeral services for Tommie L Hughes, age 62, were held Saturday, March 22,2008 at 11:00 am at the Pleasant Hill Methodist Church in Goodrich, Pastor Dr. Sandra Wright officiated, interment followed in the Victory Cemetery in Goodrich.

Mr. Hughes was born June 10,1945 to Agnes Wright. He died March 19,2007 at the Stoneleigh Estates in Lufkin.

He is preceded in death by his Father Mr. Hughes and Stepfather Willie Garrett. Brothers; Melvin Garrett, John Stephen and Jesse Garrett.

His survivors include his Mother Agnes Garrett, Son Byron Hughes and Wife Dessie, of Conroe, Daughter; Brigitta Hughes of Goodrich, Brothers; Edward Brooks and wife Janice, Luby Garrett and wife Brenda, Bobby Garrett and wife Elmer, Willie Garrett and wife Willie, James Garrett and wife Annette, Earnest Garrett and wife Juan, Sister; Eddie Mae Bookman and husband Kirby of Goodrich, Sister-in-law; Freddie Mae Stephen of Houston; one Aunt Jessie Bradford of Brenham, Tx and five grandchildren; Bryon Jr., Kelton, Biyonca, Ashley and Davante Hughes. A host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Romad Bookman, Tracey Walker, Jerry Morgan, Floyd Carter, Joe R. Bogany, Otis Wright and honorary pallbearers were his brothers.

Graveside Services for Benjamin Leon Price 78, of Corrigan, Texas will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 28, 2008 in the Stryker Cemetery in Corrigan, Texas with Bro. Troy Usleton officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday, March 27, 2008 from 6-8 p.m. in the Corrigan Funeral Home Chapel.

Mr. Price was born August 21, 1929 in Castor, Louisiana and died Monday, March 24, 2008 in Corrigan, Texas. He was a maintenance supervisor for FEMA and a Baptist by faith. He is preceded in death by his parents: Peter Benjamin and Cavia (Page) Price; son: Jimmie; grandson: Steven; granddaughter: Christina; great granddaughter: Courtney; brothers: Gary, Ed, and John.

He is survived by his wife: Lillian Price of Corrigan, Texas; sons: Robert Price Sr. of Dallas, Texas; Clark Price of Landers, California; Bryan Price of Justin, Texas; brothers: Ray Price of San Jose, California; Dave Price of Fayetteville, North Carolina; sisters: Doris Price of Jefferson, Texas; Judy Holliman of McCloud, Texas; 12 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends.

Peña

Funeral Services for Conrado DelToro Peña, 32, of Corrigan, Texas will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 25, 2008 in the St. Martin De Porres Catholic Church in Corrigan, Texas. Interment will follow in the Union Springs Cemetery in Corrigan, Texas.

Mr. Peña was born April 18, 1975 in Pearsall, Texas and died Saturday, March 22, 2008 in Corrigan, Texas. He was a forklift operator for Do+able and a Catholic by faith. He is preceded in death by his grandfather: Israel DelToro; grandparents: Jose and Santos Peña; and sister: Angelita Peña.

She is survived by her husband: Michael Edmondson of Houston, Texas; sons and

Funeral Services for Charles B. Miller Jr., 86, of Abbeville, Louisiana will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, March 9, 2008 in the Corrigan Funeral Home Chapel in Corrigan, Texas with Pastor Ralph Johnston officiating.

Mr. Miller was born January 8, 1922 in Pineland, Texas and died Thursday, March 6, 2008 in Abbeville, Louisiana. He was a maintenance supervisor for Atlantic Richfield and a member of the Pinecrest Baptist Church. He also served as a mason for the Masonic Lodge 1103AF & AM, a constable for Pct. 3, and a deacon in the Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents: Charles Benton and Annie (Jolly) Miller; and brothers: John Edward Miller and Frank Miller. He is survived by his wife: Leola Miller of Abbeville, Louisiana; sons: Lynn Miller of New Iberia, Louisiana, Donald Miller of Homeland, California, and David Miller of Bridge City, Texas; brother: Gene Miller of Silsbee, Texas; 8 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and numerous other relatives and friends. Smikal

Roger Dale Smikal, died Monday, March 3,2008 at the Memorial Medical Center in Livingston. Visitation was held Wednesday evening, March 5,2008, from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at Pace Funeral Home.

He was born August 10, 1958 in Woodville, Texas.

Roger was a Private lst class in the army and was a sharp shooter. He attended school in Hardin county. He lived for a period of time in Galveston, Marshall and Hardin counties. He served for ten years on the Indian Springs Fire Department. He enjoyed fishing and being outdoors. He worked in oil and gas as a roughneck. He belonged to the Indian Springs Chapel.

Surviving him are his adopted parents, Albert and Ruthie Smikal, his wife Charlene Smikal, two sons; Victor Covey and Roger Smikal,II. Brothers; James Smikal, Larry Deckert and Robert Deckert, Sisters; Carolyn Curry, Karen Mundz, Theresa Skolara, Julie Fregia. One grandchild, Lisa Covey.

Roger will be buried in the Houston National Cemetery, in Houston, Texas.

Schmidt

Funeral Services for William Allen Schmidt 53, of Camden Texas will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, February 24, 2008 at the Corrigan Funeral Home Chapel in Corrigan, Texas with Pastor Charlie Hodge and Billy Poole officiating.

Mr. Schmidt was born March 1, 1954 in Angelina County, Texas and died Friday, February 24, 2008 in Livingston, Texas. He was a millright for many years and a Baptist by faith.

Sybil died Sunday March 16, 2008 at her home in Goodrich, Texas at the age of 77.

James Sidney Steelhammer, age 81, of Coldspring, Texas, died Saturday, March 15, 2008. He was born in Brady, Texas on January 22, 1927 to Albert Henry and Mollie Steelhammer.

Survivors include his seven children, Earl Steelhammer, Edward Steelhammer, Thomas Standley, Susan Jackson, Don Standley, Jan Cantu, Gene Standley; brother, Roy Steelhammer; seventeen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren with numerous other cherished family members and caring friends.

Weeks

Opal Lee Cantrell Weeks, 76, of Dayton died Wednesday, March 5, 2008 in Livingston after an extended illness.

She was born February 4, 1932 in Goose Creek, Texas to parents, John S. and Gertrude Johnson Cantrell. She had been a long time resident of Dayton before moving to the Cleveland area 10 years ago, was a member of the Pentecostal Church, enjoyed cooking, loved being with her family and enjoying her two dogs.

Graveside services for Mrs. Weeks will be Monday, March 10, at 2:00 p.m. at Cleveland Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Jeff Day officiating.

Mrs. Weeks was preceded in death by her parents, her husband: James “Jimmy” Weeks; grandson: Eddie F. “Little Eddie” Weeks; brothers: David Cantrell, Roy D. Cantrell, Richard Cantrell, and Johnny Cantrell; and her sister: Marie E. Brooks. Mr. Miller was born January 8, 1922 in Pineland, Texas and died Thursday, March 6, 2008 in Abbeville, Louisiana. He was a maintenance supervisor for Atlantic Richfield and a member of the Pinecrest Baptist Church. He also served as a mason for the Masonic Lodge 1103AF & AM, a constable for Pct. 3, and a deacon in the Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents: Charles Benton and Annie (Jolly) Miller; and brothers: John Edward Miller and Frank Miller. He is survived by his wife: Leola Miller of Abbeville, Louisiana; sons: Lynn Miller of New Iberia, Louisiana, Donald Miller of Homeland, California, and David Miller of Bridge City, Texas; brother: Gene Miller of Silsbee, Texas; 8 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and numerous other relatives and friends. Smikal

Roger Dale Smikal, died Monday, March 3,2008 at the Memorial Medical Center in Livingston. Visitation was held Wednesday evening, March 5,2008, from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at Pace Funeral Home.

He was born August 10, 1958 in Woodville, Texas.

Roger was a Private lst class in the army and was a sharp shooter. He attended school in Hardin county. He lived for a period of time in Galveston, Marshall and Hardin counties. He served for ten years on the Indian Springs Fire Department. He enjoyed fishing and being outdoors. He worked in oil and gas as a roughneck. He belonged to the Indian Springs Chapel.

Surviving him are his adopted parents, Albert and Ruthie Smikal, his wife Charlene Smikal, two sons; Victor Covey and Roger Smikal,II. Brothers; James Smikal, Larry Deckert and Robert Deckert, Sisters; Carolyn Curry, Karen Mundz, Theresa Skolara, Julie Fregia. One grandchild, Lisa Covey.

Roger will be buried in the Houston National Cemetery, in Houston, Texas.

Rupert is the son of Donald and Lois Moseley, from Hillsboro, Texas. He was born May 30,1956, in San Angelo, Texas.

He had an associates degree and was a licensed nurse. He loved Nascar, football, cooking, show, deer hunter, bass fisherman and music. He loved to Barbeque. His daughter Lesa was truly the apple of his life.

Mary Ruth Cupps, 85, of Livingston, died Saturday, Feburary 16,2008 at Livingston Memorial Medical Center.

Mrs. Cupps was born on December 7,1922 to A.B. and Amanda Williams. She married Tom M. Cupps on November 10,1951 in Pasadena. She was a member of Blanchard Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by Tom M. Cupps and brothers; Turner, Morris A.B., Gwinn and Glenn Williams.

Survivors include her Daughter Jamie Ruth Holmes of Livingston; Son, Carroll Tom Cupps of Jewett; brother Bill Williams and wife Mary Lou of Pasadena. Sister-in-law; Gwendolyn Williams, widow of Morris A.B. Williams of Cushing, Texas. Three grandchildren, Thomas D. Holmes, Denise D. Holmes and Dianne Cupps; and one great-grandchild, T.J. Mr. Sutton was born in Houston, Texas, January 19,1933 and died Thursday, February 14,2008 at the Conroe Regional Medical Center in Conroe, Texas.

Mr. Sutton was in the Navy, stateside, during the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed photography, computers, cars, building things and outdoor grilling and making his homemade Barbeque sauce.

He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Charles Richard and Susie Wedel Sutton.

Agnes Sybil Lummus, age 83, died Feburary 13,2008 at Memorial Hermann Northeast in Humble. Mrs. Lummus was born in Jewett, Texas, September 8,1924 to Tom and Winnie Ferguson Story, whom preceded her in death. She lived in Livingston for 56 years and was a very good Christian mother and grandmother. She was a member of Chesswood Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her Father and Mother and her Husband, James Lummus.

Services for Former State Representative Ralph Ray Wallace III will be held at the chapel of the state cemetery Thursday, February 7th with a viewing beginning at 1:00 p.m. followed by services at 2:00 p.m. followed by burial in the state cemetery.

Representative Wallace was born in Houston, July 27, 1949 and died February 1, 2008. As a youngster in Houston he founded the Texas Teen Democratic Party. Ralph was a graduate of Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas and was a member of the Sons of the Republic of Texas and a Knight of the Order of San Jacinto. Ralph was the long serving chairman of the house democratic caucus, chairman of the Harris county delegation and represented south east Houston for several legislative terms. Ralph spent the majority of his life working to the benefit of the citizens of Texas.

He is survived by his mother, Kathleen Williams; sister, Kathy Hunt and husband Doc of Livingston, TX; nephew, Byron Dunaway of Clear Lake, TX; brother, Franklin Wallace and wife Beverly; nephews, Miles and Beau Wallace of Salado, TX; daughter, Jacquelyn Thomas and husband Michael of Dallas, TX; and son, Ralph Ray Wallace IV of Austin, TX.

Opal Childerss, of Lufkin, Texas died Monday, February 11, 2008 at the age of 100. She was born in Livingston, Texas on June 5, 1907 to Jasper J. and Vallie E. Young. Opal was Baptist in faith and belonged to the Pilot Club in Livingston.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Herbert W. Childerss; son, Herbert S. Childerss. Survivors include her sister, Eddy Vaye Davis; grandchildren, John R. Childerss and Kathleen C. Roger Michael Wiggins 55, of Hull died Friday February 8,2008 at Liberty-Dayton Hospital in Liberty.

A native of Livingston he had lived in the area most of his life and was a welder with Shannon’s Fabrication of Hull.

Baxter “Sonny” Denton, age 55, of Porter, Texas, died Saturday, January 19, 2008.

Reuel B. Crawford, age 102, died Wednesday, January 16, 2008, in a Baytown Hospital.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2008 at 10:00 A. M., in the Allison Funeral Service Chapel 1101 North Travis Street, Liberty, TX, 77575 with the Reverend Carlton O. Bailey officiating, with burial in the Moss Hill Community Cemetery, Moss Hill, TX. A visitation will be held on Friday, January 18, 2008 from 5 pm until 8 pm, at Allison Funeral Service.

Reuel was born July 7, 1905 in Livingston, TX, to Thomas Benjiman Crawford and Sallie Taylor Crawford. He grew up on the family farm and he became one of the best farmer in the area. He enjoyed growing all kinds of crops and working with the animals on the farm. He was a Baptist by faith.

Reuel is preceded in death by his parents, first wife of 67 years: Mary Nell Crawford, a son: Nolan Crawford, two sisters: Ruth Smith and Louada Parrish, and three brothers: Horace, Rayford, and T. B. Crawford.

He is survived by his wife: Louise Canada Crawford. They were married on September 20, 1997 in Moss Hill, TX. and numerous nieces and nephews, and cousins.

Lola Bea Jones, 60, of Corrigan died Wednesday, December 26, 2007 at the Lufkin Memorial Hospital Hospice In The Pines.

She was born on December 9, 1947 in New Willard, Texas, to the parents of Mack C. Jones and Iola Harris Jones.  She grew up in and resided in Corrigan, Texas and graduated from Dunbar Public School.  Mrs. Jones was retired.  She was preceded in death by her parents and grandson Cordell “Cord” Freeman & special friend Raymond Freeman.

Services for Mrs. Jones are as follows:  Visitation will be held on Friday, January 4, 2008; 7pm to 9pm at Mt. Olive Baptist Church-Corrigan, Texas.   Funeral will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2008 @ 1:00pm.  Burial will take place at Kibbblefield Cemetery; Marston, Tx.
